Behavior Support Services in York-Adams Counties
What seems normal to one person may be frightening, confusing, or overwhelming to someone dealing with behavioral issues. Skills of Central PA provides behavior support services in both Adams and York counties.
You learn how to support a child through the frustration or fear that arises when the environment changes unexpectedly. Your teen learns strategies for managing anger when a change at school isn’t expected or welcomed. Adults can learn to navigate social events in which issues arise that cause alarm or upheaval.
With our behavior support services, clients and their family members learn beneficial, effective strategies. We don’t believe in cookie-cutter approaches. We take our time to get to know the individual and supportive family members, community leaders, teachers, or other professionals, who all play a role in shaping an individual’s daily life.
As behavioral issues are unique to each individual, we offer person-centric services tailored to the client’s specific needs, interests, and struggles.
- Identifying triggers that often increase frustration or outbursts.
- Improve family relationships and understanding of the best approaches to use.
- Joining clients in their classroom, workplace, or community setting to learn healthy interaction skills and steps for managing behavioral issues that may start to arise.
- Pinpointing beneficial environmental changes to help ease confusion, frustration, and uncertainty that can lead to an outburst.
- Training of area community members, like first responders, management teams, and school professionals, to help them understand how to help you work through moments of frustration.

Lifesharing in York-Adams Counties
What makes a family? It’s not always the people who gave birth to you. Sometimes, people within your community are better suited or able to offer you the support and care you need to live life to the fullest with your developmental or intellectual disability.
Lifesharing sponsors are carefully vetted and trained to welcome Skils’ clients into their homes. You’re not thrown into the new living situation without preparation. You’re introduced to a prospective lifesharing provider and take time to get to know them. If it feels like it’s a great match, the move into their shared home is handled slowly, giving everyone time to adjust.
Throughout the year, caseworkers check in and make sure everything is still going great. Lifesharing providers also enjoy continued support and training opportunities. From this environment, you gain:
- Companionship opportunities both within the home and in the community.
- Opportunities to enjoy being part of family meals and celebrations.
- Regular responsibilities, such as household chores that you’re able to complete independently or with some assistance.
- Stable relationships provide long-term stability.
